Supplied as a replacement piston assembly with rings for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 and the closely related Gen V 6.2L applications noted below. This listing covers the component described here only; hardware such as bolts, seals and gaskets is included only where the specification list says so.

Function

A piston carries combustion pressure to the connecting rod, manages heat and controls the ring seal against the bore. In a direct-injection engine it also has to cope with a stratified charge and, in some calibrations, with the higher thermal load that comes with it. Wear or damage shows up as oil consumption, blow-by, a ticking or slapping noise when cold, or a compression reading that falls away on one cylinder.

Specifications as documented

Component: Piston assembly with rings

OEM part number: 12656874; 12656875; 12685185

Engine: 6.2L Gen V V8 - L86 / L87 flagged in listing match

Model years: Not stated in captured listing data

Dimensions: Standard size stated; bore not published

Package contents: Not itemised; single piston or set depending on price point

Compatibility

Engine: 6.2L Gen V V8 - L86 / L87 flagged in listing match. Confirm standard versus oversize before ordering, keep the assembly marks facing the correct way, fit new rings with the correct end gaps and clock the ring gaps as specified, and use new rod bolts where the originals are torque-to-yield. Bore condition should be measured, not judged by eye.

Fitment notice

Compatibility is stated for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 on the strength of the supplier listing and, where an OEM number is published, a parts-catalogue cross-check. GM built the 6.2L V8 in several forms, and L86, LT1, LT2 and LT4 components are not automatically interchangeable with L87 parts. Before ordering, confirm the engine RPO code and the original part number against the vehicle, and treat this listing as a guide rather than a substitute for that check. Specialist engine repairs should be carried out by a qualified technician.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0948/1486/3678/files/Hce33ab55a7774cc6bf2ad3e1b1dbbaa6y.png_640x640_89ca4f0c-2ae9-4688-989e-f7ff181b7c66.png?v=1793097415
https://asiapartsstore.com/products/gm-l87-6-2l-v8-piston-assembly-12656874-12656875-with-rings-12685185
