The 4M40 engine is a diesel, in-line, 4-cylinder. Overhead camshaft. The 4M40 cylinder block is made of cast iron, the block head is made of aluminum alloy. It was offered in atmospheric and turbo versions, with a mechanical and electronic injection pump. The engine was installed on: Mitsubishi Delica 4 (PA4) in 1994 – 2006; Mitsubishi L200 3 (K70) in 1996 – 2006; Mitsubishi Pajero 2 (V30) in 1993 – 1999; Mitsubishi Pajero 3 (V70) in 1999 – 2006; Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 1 (K90) in 1996 – 2006; Mitsubishi Space Gear 1 (PA) in 1994 – 2006.
