Overview
A 6.2L cylinder head gasket supplied for Gen V overhaul work, with the supplier naming L86 applications. Supplied as a replacement cylinder head gasket for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 and the closely related Gen V 6.2L applications noted below. This listing covers the component described here only; hardware such as bolts, seals and gaskets is included only where the specification list says so.
Function
A gasket has to hold combustion pressure, coolant and oil apart at a joint that moves through every heat cycle. Head and manifold gaskets therefore do two jobs at once: they seal, and they accommodate the small relative movement between castings without fretting or crushing. A failed gasket typically announces itself as coolant loss without an external leak, white exhaust vapour, oil contamination, a compression loss on one cylinder or a repeated misfire that does not follow a coil or injector.

Installation
Surface preparation is the whole job. Both faces must be clean, flat and free of old gasket residue, and fastener threads and holes must be clean so the torque reading is accurate. Follow the published tightening sequence and stages, and replace torque-to-yield fasteners rather than reusing them. Re-check coolant level and bleed the system after the first heat cycle.
Fitment notice
Compatibility is stated for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 on the strength of the supplier listing and, where an OEM number is published, a parts-catalogue cross-check. GM built the 6.2L V8 in several forms, and L86, LT1, LT2 and LT4 components are not automatically interchangeable with L87 parts. Before ordering, confirm the engine RPO code and the original part number against the vehicle, and treat this listing as a guide rather than a substitute for that check. Specialist engine repairs should be carried out by a qualified technician.
